The gullible daughter of a bankrupt landowner would never have imagined that she had married not the rich man who was supposed to save her family, but a marriage fraudster who was impersonating him. At the beginning was the Slovak television series Lekár umierajúceho czasu (Doctor of Dying Time), dedicated to the Rudolphine-era scientist Jan Jesenius. He ended up on the scaffold along with other gentlemen after losing the anti-Habsburg uprising. When director Miloslav Luther conceived the idea of making an abridged version of the footage for cinema, he had to not only rebuild the storyline but also dub it into Czech. However, the result was only an illustrative puzzle, describing the various stages of the hero's turbulent life.

The upcoming documentary Because I Have to unveils the life and work of Miloš Šejn (b. 1947), a visionary artist and former head of the Conceptual Art Department at Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts. The story of three siblings: Cyril, Bruno, and Aneta. A deep bond was forged between them after their parents’ tragic death, when much older Cyril took on the responsibility of raising his younger brother and sister. That bond now faces an unusual test. The three set off on their traditional mountain excursion, all the while carrying the shadow of Bruno’s inevitable fate.
